DEEPENING DISCIPLESHIP THROUGH CURSILLO

Cursillo is a worldwide movement of the Church providing a tried and tested method by which Christians are empowered to grow through prayer, study and action.

The movement originated in Mallorca in the aftermath of the Spanish Civil War.

The clergy prepared lay leaders for a pilgrimage to Santiago de Compostela to encourage renewal of the faith amongst the younger generation.

The leaders were prepared through short courses in Christianity (cursillos).

These courses were so beneficial to spiritual growth that their content has remained at the heart of the three-day weekend, which is still on offer to this day.

It is a time for deepening our relationship with God and for fresh commissioning to Christian leadership.

There is an ongoing support network of faith sharing in group reunions at the local and diocesan level, which sharpen our commitment to discipleship and promote accountability to one another in the faith.
